These permissions are renewable in strict conformance with Dept of Justice & INIS criteria. www.inis.gov.ie.

End of course exam
All students will be registered for the recognised and approved exam that will take place at the end of their programme by the School Administration Manager Selene D'Alessandro (office@atlantic-english.com 00353 28 27714) . A recognised and approved exam must be taken by all non- EEA students on a long term study programme. The dates will be clarified at the beginning of your programme and arrangements will be made to help you go to the Cork city exam centre. You will be registered for the appropriate exam within the registration deadline and your fees will include the exam registration fee. The school will file away and scan/save copies of the results of your exam and you will receive the original certificate gained. Your level will be assessed before the course and regularly assessed throughout. Entry levels for the various exams courses are clearly indicated and explained to the student. Students sign a letter to show agreement that they must take an exam at the end and Atlantic SEAL will register them for this exam and organise transport to the exam centre in Cork city. This letter will be available for inspection at any time when requested by the student or authorities.
Grades achieved will be recorded and this is sent to both the school and the students. This record is available on request to students, INIS and relevant internal personnel, Data protection permissions are agreed with students.
Absenteeism
For adults who are here on a visa and attending one of the above courses:
non-EEA students are required to attend the programme on a full-time, daytime basis, in accordance with Immigration regulations and reflected in your timetable which will offer your programme between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday and Friday each week. Formal timetabled hours for student contact must amount to at least 15 hours (15 x 60 minutes) per week, excluding breaks. The programme operates for a minimum of 25 weeks over a 8 month period; and the tuition element must and will constitute at least 375 hours during that period
Students must respect their legal responsibilities and obligations in terms of attendance & the current minimum percentage of attendance days legally acceptable is 85%.- any breaches of this for no legitimate reason will result in at first the local Bantry Immigration Officer being informed by the school Director and the appropriate legal steps/investigation will ensue. Atlantic SEAL will give the local gardai/immigration officer full support in their dealing with any matter of this nature.
Punctuality
If a student is 15 or more minutes late for class they will be recorded as absent. Attendance is recorded by the teacher and checked by the Schull Owner Barbara Connelly and Director of Studies at the end of each week.
Expulsion/absenteeism
After 2 days of absence the school owner Barbara Connelly (info@atalntic-english.com 00353 28 28943) will make contact directly with the student to find out what the problem or reason is. If no contact can be made or if the absence continues the school Owner or D.O.S. will send a more formal letter/email and reiterate the obligations of the student to attend school. IF there is no response within 28 days or if the school detects that the reasons for absence are not legitimate or cause for concern, the student will be expelled and reported to the local Immigration Officer. All documents and general correspondence and reports relating to the absenteeism/expulsion will be kept and can be checked at any time by the relevant personnel & authorities.
In the case of sickness, the student must contact the Office Manager Selene D'Alessandro by email (office@atlantic-english.com) or telephone 0035 28 27714. See under holidays & Sickness below.
Holidays & Sickness
All breaks or holidays must conform with the Dept of Justice and Equility regulations. Students may take up to 4 weeks holidays on a 25 week programme but these dates must be approved and discussed in advance with the school principal Barbara Connelly (info@atlatnic-english.com) At Atlantic SEAL no holidays may be taken without prior arrangement and permission granted. Atlantic SEAL is open year round apart from the two weeks at Christmas which are the only holidays time the school is closed. If there is reason for a break such as family bereavement this must be legitimate and verifiable. In most cases lost days must be made up later.
Absence due to Sickness An email or text or phone call must be received by the school. Contact the Office Manager Selene D'Alessandro on office@atlantic-english.com and 00353 28 27714 . This must occur every day of the absence due to sickness. A Doctor’s certificate proving sickness was the cause of absence must be furnished on the day the student returns. If not then the disciplinary steps described above leading to expulsion due to unaccounted-for absenteeism will be taken. This refers to uncertified sick leave beyond the statutory entitlement

Disciplinary Procedures for student due to misbehavior
If a teacher is having trouble with a student in class, s/he will try to deal with it on a 'one -to-one' basis with the student, if this fails to have a positive effect the student is sent to the D.O.S. And/or the School Director in peak season or to the School Director at other times. They will be warned that their parent/employer/agent will be informed if it continues. Failure to behave after this will lead to contact being made with the above mentioned third party(ies) and a disciplinary procedure decided upon. In the case of serious discipline problems Atlantic S.E.A.L. Will insist that the student is removed from the school and returns home with no refund of fees or payment of expenses accrued by early departure. Any illegal activities (violence, drug abuse, theft or other) will be immediately reported to the local Gardai who will deal with the matter and their parents/employers/agents etc informed and instant expulsion will ensue.
Grievances procedures – students:
Our students are informed on their first day as to whom they should report any problems or grievances they may have for example - if it is an academic problem, we advise them to speak first to their teacher and if not satisfied to then speak to the D.O.S. And following this if the matter is not resolved, to then speak to the School Principal-Proprietor (academicadult@atlantic-english.com or info@atlantic-english.com 00353 28 28943/00353 28 27714)
Problems with our leisure programme can be addressed to our leisure Manager (leisure@atlantic-english.com)
For any problems with their host family or accommodation, they must contact our Host Family Co-ordinator and again, if not satisfied, they may speak to the School Principal-Proprietor who will do her utmost to resolve these issues.(accommodation@atlantic-english.com)
For any problems outside of the academic or accommodation areas, the School Owner is at all times available for the student and each student has the relevant direct phone numbers of each member of staff as well as two 24 hour emergency numbers of the School Director and her partner. These are provided in the Student Manual.
The 24 hour emergency numbers are 00353 87 2283672 and 00353 86 8372065
